DeepL, a Germany-based AI firm building translation tools and a rival to Google Translate, announced its decision to cut approximately 25 per cent of its workforce. Jarek Kutylowski, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, cited a “massive structural shift” from Artificial Intelligence.

In a post on LinkedIn, Kutylowski announced that about 250 employees will be cut, with the move subject to legal procedures. “The decision wasn’t made lightly — it is the most difficult I’ve had to make in my career”, he wrote.

Kutylowski emphasised the move stems from a “structural choice about how DeepL needs to operate to remain a global AI leader”.
