CSK address MS Dhoni stake request rumours, his IPL 2027 future

Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan has dismissed rumours that MS Dhoni has asked for stakes in the franchise. The CSK CEO also said that Dhoni is yet to make a commitment about his future in the IPL and if he would take part in the 2027 edition.

Unverified reports have fuelled speculation about a possible rift between MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings, with claims suggesting that the former captain and the franchise may currently be at odds over a potential ownership stake.

According to a report by Cricblogger, Dhoni initially sought a 25 per cent share in the franchise before reportedly lowering his demand to 20 per cent. The report further claimed that CSK responded with an offer of a 5.5 per cent stake. None of these claims, however, have been independently confirmed.

However, Viswanathan put an end to the rumours.

“The rumours are completely baseless,” said Viswanathan told PTI.

WILL DHONI PLAY IN 2027?

Another topic of discussion has been Dhoni’s future in the IPL and if he will continue to play in 2027. The former India captain didn’t play a single game due to an injury as CSK crashed out before making it to the playoffs.

Viswanathan said that Dhoni hasn’t said that he won’t play in IPL 2027 and at the moment it is a bit of a waiting game.

“Dhoni hasn’t yet said he won’t play. So lets wait,” said Viswanathan.

This comment from Viswanathan comes after he had said earlier that CSK won’t mind having Dhoni as a fixture with the team in any capacity, even in a mentor role.

“We have not discussed anything with MS as of now. MS takes his decisions on his own, and we respect that,” Kasi said.

“We would always like to have him as a permanent fixture at CSK in whatever capacity — be it as a player, coach or mentor, whatever he would like. Any decision depends on him.”

It remains to be seen if Dhoni will be a part of CSK next season. But in the meantime, Dhoni seems to be enjoying life outside of the track at the moment.
