Radhakrishnan completed his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) at V.O. Chidambaram College in Tuticorin. As a student, he was active in sports and excelled as a table tennis champion. During his teenage years, he developed an interest in Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and joined the organisation at the age of 17, marking the beginning of his political journey. He began his political career in 1974 and led the Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. He was elected as an MP from Coimbatore in both 1998 and 1999. During his tenure in the Lok Sabha, he became the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Textiles and contributed to various significant committees, including Finance. From 2004 to 2007, the BJP appointed him as the Tamil Nadu State President. Radhakrishnan served as the chairman of the Coir Board from 2016 to 2020, during which time coir exports achieved record levels. In February 2023, he was appointed as the Governor of Jharkhand, and within four months, he visited all 24 districts of the state.
