Copy, Paste, Win? Red Bull Test Their Own ‘Macarena’ Wing Ahead Of Miami GP – Report

After a horror start to the F1 season, Red Bull Racing aren’t just making tweaks. It seems like they’re straight-up borrowing moves to get better now.

How? Because the ‘Macarena‘ wing has entered the chat yet again.

Red Bull Try the ‘Macarena’ Wing

After a shaky start to the season, Red Bull Racing are clearly in experimentation mode.

During a filming day at Silverstone, the Milton Keynes outfit rolled out a surprise: their own version of Ferrari’s much-talked-about “Macarena” rear wing on the RB22, with Max Verstappen behind the wheel, putting it through its paces.

The concept? A highly flexible rear wing system that can open and close up to 270 degrees, much like an aircraft wing, designed to improve straight-line speed while maintaining aerodynamic efficiency.

But, as per reports from RacingNews365Red Bull haven’t copied it outright.

Unlike Ferrari’s design, which uses actuators embedded in the endplates, Red Bull’s version shifts the mechanism to a central pillar.

Ferrari Not Done Yet

Here’s the twist: Ferrari themselves haven’t even fully cracked their own invention.

The SF-26’s ‘Macarena’ wing has been in and out of action across recent race weekends. It debuted in China, disappeared in Japan, and only made brief appearances elsewhere, largely due to instability issues, especially during braking phases.

The Italian team has spent the April break refining the system, focusing heavily on improving how the wing behaves. Recent sightings spotted at Monza suggest Ferrari are evolving the concept further.

With the Miami Grand Prix around the corner, both teams could roll up with versions of the same radical concept, each hoping theirs works better when it actually matters.

And with a plethora of changes introduced to the controversial 2026 F1 regulations, all eyes are glued onto the racetrack to see if anyone can usurp Mercedes when it matters the most.
