1. Government increased minimum wage before Diwali: Construction labor will now get Rs 783 per day, high-skilled workers will get Rs 1035.

The government on Thursday (September 26) ahead of Diwali decided to increase the minimum wage for workers in informal sectors like construction, mining and agriculture. This will come into effect from October 1.

The government says the increase will help workers cope with inflation, as the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for industrial workers has increased by 2.40 points.
