After complete construction, 300 flights will be able to fly daily from the airport.
Commercial flights will start at Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) from 25 December 2025. Akasa Air will fly the first flight, which will come from Delhi to Navi Mumbai. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the airport on October 8, which will become Mumbai’s second major hub and which will increase connectivity. With a capacity like Indira Gandhi International Airport, it will handle 9 crore passengers by 2026.
Schedule of first flights: Starting from Akasa Air
Akasa Air’s maiden (first) flight will land from Delhi to Navi Mumbai on 25 December 2025. Goa route will also start on the same day. Delhi and Kochi will be connected from December 26, while Ahmedabad flights will start from December 31. The company said that it will directly connect four cities through NMIA.
On the other hand, Indigo will also add connectivity to 10 cities from December 25. This includes Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, North Goa (MoPA), Jaipur, Nagpur, Kochi and Mangaluru. Air India Express will also start operations by the end of the year.
Akasa Air will connect the new airport to 4 cities.
NMIA airport will reduce Mumbai’s traffic
Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is designed to decongest Mumbai’s bustling traffic. This airport is spread over 1,160 hectares and a capacity of 2.5 crore passengers has been kept in Phase 1. 60 flights can fly from here daily.
About Rs 19,647 crore has been spent in the first phase, in which a terminal and runway have been built. 4 terminals are to be built at the airport. After completion of all the phases, the capacity of the airport will be 9 crore passengers annually. At the same time, 300 flights will be able to fly daily.
It is named after farmer leader DB Patil. Its construction started in 2017, which ran under the supervision of CIDCO (City and Industrial Development Corporation). This project will boost India’s aviation growth, especially in Western India.
Adani Group has 74% stake in the airport
- This airport is being built jointly by Adani Group and Land Development Authority (CIDCO) of Maharashtra Government. Adani Group has 74% stake in it and CIDCO has 26% stake. It is close to Jawaharlal Nehru Port and the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link, which will help meet the growing air travel needs of Mumbai.
- It is named after farmer leader DB Patil. Patil was a prominent farmer leader who fought for the rights of farmers and local people in Maharashtra. Patil himself had fought for the rights of the displaced villagers during the land acquisition for the Navi Mumbai International Airport project.

The first phase of Navi Mumbai Airport is India’s largest greenfield airport project, built in public and private partnership (PPP).
The terminal has 12 beautiful and 17 strong pillars in lotus-like design that support the roof.
Navi Mumbai Airport will be environment friendly. It will have electric bus service and the country’s first water taxi connection.
This airport will have Automated People Mover (APM) service, which will connect the airport to all the terminals and the city.
Navi Mumbai International Airport is being built on approximately 1,160 hectares (11.6 square kilometres). Which will be built in several phases. Four terminals are to be built in this project.
