A nine-year-old girl enrolled in Class 4 at the private Neerja Modi School in Jaipur’s Mansarovar area allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the fourth floor of the school building on November 1.

According to sources in the Rajasthan education department, the student had told two classmates earlier that she did not want to attend class that day. The classmates could not explain her reasons. Investigators say this refusal to go to class may be a key lead in understanding what motivated the incident.

CCTV footage shows the child climbing a railing on the fourth floor of the school before leaping down. While other students appear to walk normally nearby, the girl apparently went to the railing and jumped.

Her parents have alleged that she was being bullied at the school and filed a complaint earlier in September and again a year ago. They say no corrective action was taken.

The education department’s investigations reveal additional troubling findings. A district education officer said the student had twice approached a teacher to complain about inappropriate language used by classmates—but it remains unclear if she identified herself as a target or sought help before the incident.

When authorities arrived at the school after the event, they found that the area where the girl fell appeared to have been cleaned—no visible bloodstains remained. Her family and some observers question whether the evidence was tampered with.

The student was an only child; her mother worked at a bank, and her father worked  in a private firm. The school administration has so far not issued a detailed statement on the incident.

The Rajasthan education authorities have formed a committee to probe the matter, including scrutiny of school safety norms, teacher conduct, and supervision mechanisms. Questions are being raised about whether existing child-safety protocols at the school were sufficient.

This tragic case has once again focused attention on child wellbeing in schools and the urgent need for effective grievance redressal, supervision, and mental-health support for young students.
