Manchester City picked up a crucial 2-1 win over Arsenal at the Etihad on Sunday in what could be a defining moment in the year’s Premier League title race to move within three points of the table-toppers Gunners with a game in hand.
Rayan Cherki and Erling Haaland netted pip Mikel Arteta and Co as Kai Havertz’s strike went in vain.
City are slated to travel to Burnley on Thursday, and have the possibility to go to the summit of the English top-flight with a win.
Arsenal, who were pipped to the title in the previous couple of seasons, are in danger of missing out on yet another crown to Pep Guardiola as the Gunners let what was a 9 point lead at one point nearly evaporate.
Cherki got the scoreboard ticking in the 16th minute of the game as he demonstrated some fancy feet to get into the area before slotting the ball into the corner of the net to help his side to the lead.
The joy did not last long as Havertz got the Gunners back on level terms near instantaneously as he capitalised on a howler from City keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to peg the visitors back on level terms as the sides went into the break at all level.
The second half witnessed a flurry of attack from both sides, before Haaland popped up around the far corner to put the ball past Arsenal custodian David Raya to retake the lead for his side.
Arsenal hit the woodwork a couple of times in their attempt at an equaliser and Martin Odegaard saw his effort cleared off the line by a resolute City back-line, before Kai Havertz couldn’t keep his header from close range down.
City survived nervy moments in the additional time before eventually closing out the game in their favour as Guardiola’s men eye another epic turnaround in the PL.
