CISF officer nabs fleeing man at Delhi Metro station after suspicious object spotted

A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer’s lightning-fast chase stopped a passenger from slipping out of Delhi’s Jama Masjid Metro Station after a suspicious object was spotted in his bag on the scanner. The man nearly made it past the exit before the officer caught up with him, in a video that has gone viral.

The incident took place on October 17 when the CISF personnel were screening passengers’ baggage at the station.

The trouble began when a dense, suspicious object appeared on the X-ray baggage inspection system (XBIS) screen as the passenger’s belongings were being checked. Instead of waiting for further examination, the man attempted to flee from the checking area.

The man was seen fleeing towards the exit, seemingly hoping to leave the station before anyone could stop him. However, a CISF officer quickly sprang into action.

“Demonstrating quick reflexes and effective coordination, CISF personnel immediately pursued and apprehended the fleeing passenger near the exit gate,” the CISF said in a statement accompanying the video.

A subsequent examination of the passenger’s belongings revealed a gold powder-like substance weighing approximately 155 grams, concealed inside an undergarment kept in his backpack, ANI reported, citing police.

The CISF’s caption described the substance as an unidentified semi-solid material concealed in a stitched portion of an undergarment. The passenger claimed to be a non-resident Indian (NRI) living in Kuala Lumpur. He and his belongings were handed over to the police for further investigation.

Social media users praised the officer for reacting swiftly and preventing the passenger from leaving the station.

Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Arun Bothra also shared the video, commending the CISF personnel for their presence of mind. “Great presence of mind and lightning-fast response,” Bothra wrote.

The incident offered a glimpse of how an ordinary baggage check can turn into a chase within seconds, with the officer’s alertness proving crucial in apprehending the passenger before he could leave the station.
