Poonam Dhillon is the President of CINTAA from May 2024. He has been elected president for the term from 2024 to 2027.
8 members of the Executive Committee of Cine and TV Artistes Association (CINTAA) recently resigned from their posts and committee.
These members have alleged that they have no confidence in the current leadership of the organization. He also demanded holding of new elections.
Amidst this controversy, CINTAA President Poonam Dhillon on Monday termed the allegations against her and Vice President Padmini Kolhapure as very objectionable.
Actually, the 8 elected members who resigned include Hemant Pandey, Mukesh Rishi, Sahila Chadha, Hetal Parmar, Puneet Issar, Vindu Dara Singh, Vikas Verma and Deepak Parashar. They allege that important decisions were repeatedly taken without consultation or approval from the executive committee.
In fact, the eight members alleged in their joint resignation letter that the work of the association was limited to Poonam, Padmini and some other members. He also talked about collective decision, consultation and repeated violation of the rules of the Constitution.
What allegations did the resigning members make?
According to a Times of India report, a part of the resignation letter reportedly read,
President Poonam Dhillon has been taking unilateral decisions time and again. He has sent official messages to government officials using his ID and has also single-handedly taken decisions on messages sent to industry organizations using CINTAA’s official ID.
The letter further said,
He represented the Association before and before the Government, quasi-judicial and industry bodies, without the knowledge, advice or approval of the Executive Committee. This weakened the principle of collective responsibility.
CINTAA General Secretary Upasana Singh had confirmed the resignation to ANI. He had said that a total of 11 members have resigned, including 8 members of the Executive Committee.

He has also given his complaints. He says that Padmini Kolhapure and Poonam Dhillon are misusing their positions.
However, the legal advisor of the association clarified that the executive committee has not been dissolved.
Poonam said- could have filed a defamation case
Poonam Dhillon rejected the allegations leveled against her. Speaking to ANI he said,
The thing was that things were not going his way. They were trying to control CINTAA members through CAWT (Cine Artistes Welfare Trust). When this did not happen, they started making strange and serious allegations against us.
Expressing displeasure over the language of the allegations, Poonam said,
You wouldn’t believe how obscene the allegations were. They were so objectionable that if we wanted we could have considered taking defamation action against everyone involved. Such allegations, hurtful statements and objectionable language were spread on a large scale.
Poonam Dhillon has worked in many films like Noori (1979), Trishul (1978), Sohni Mahiwal (1984).
Poonam said that this controversy had an emotional impact on her and she many times thought of resigning from the executive committee. He said that two or three people, whom he described as ‘paid spokespeople’, used to say similar things.
He said that one or two of them were also members of CINTAA. He made very inappropriate and hurtful statements. Yet we chose to remain silent.
Poonam said self-respect is most important
Poonam said that I would like to say just one thing. My self-respect and honesty are very important to me. Whatever we have earned in years, we did not earn it in one or two years. We have built our reputation and self-respect over decades on our behaviour, dignity, presence and the way we behave and interact with people.
In another interview with Hindustan Times, Poonam said that she and Padmini are using their resources and connections to create goodwill for CINTAA. He said that its purpose is not for personal gain.
Poonam said that no one else was taking the initiative to do something for the members of the organization, so I am surprised by her allegations.
Clarification on money collected from CAWT and program
Putnam said the members who resigned were trying to save CAWT. This trust was formed by late Dilip Kumar, Amrish Puri, Amjad Khan and other senior artists.
He said that this trust has not fulfilled its responsibility of providing medical facilities to the members. According to Poonam, no member of the current committee has raised funds for CAWT in the last few decades.
He told that recently money was raised through a program. Artists Kavita Krishnamurthy and Madhushree, who performed in the program, were given sarees, while Nitin Mukesh, who performed without fees, was given a kurta.
Poonam said,
The resigned members are accusing us of buying sarees. Did we buy those sarees for ourselves? We believe that these artists performed for us without any fees, hence they were given these gifts. Padmini and I had personally called him and got him to present our request. These singers helped for CINTAA. We raised Rs 1 crore from these performances. In such a situation, if we spend Rs 1 lakh on gifts for artists, what is the problem?
‘I have been in the industry for 42 years, can I commit such a betrayal?’
Poonam questioned whether she could be accused of betraying the organization after working in the film industry for decades.
He said,
We have been in this industry for 42 years. Some people have been a part of it for 45 years and some for 48 years. Do you really think we could commit such a betrayal after so many years? I want to share something very personal with you. Many times in the last one or one and a half year, I felt like resigning from the Executive Committee of CINTAA.
Explaining the reason for this, he said that these people had made our life very difficult. Everything was opposed. Every initiative was opposed.
FWICE raised questions on August 11 EGM
At the same time, regarding the ongoing internal dispute in CINTAA, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has warned the officials of CINTAA not to organize the proposed Extra Ordinary General Meeting (EGM) on August 11.

FWICE Chairman B.N. Tiwari said in the letter issued on Monday that after the resignation of more than 50% members of the CINTAA Elected Executive Committee, the committee has been dissolved under the Constitution. Citing clause (F)(iii) of CINTAA’s constitution, FWICE said that if 50% or more elected posts become vacant, the committee is considered dissolved and new elections should be held.
