Megastar Chiranjeevi has made a candid admission about son Ram Charan’s latest film Skins. While praising Charan’s performance and the film’s subject, the veteran actor revealed that a part of him was also jealous, as Peddi was the kind of story he had long hoped would come his way.
Speaking in a conversation shared on Vriddhi Cinema‘s YouTube channel, Chiranjeevi said Skins reminded him of the sort of sports drama he had wanted to be a part of ever since watching Dangal.
Calling Skins more than just a commercial entertainer, Chiranjeevi said the film carries an educational and inspiring message. He admitted that while he was immensely proud of Charan as a father, he viewed the opportunity differently as an actor.
Chiranjeevi, 70, said, “Some people are now saying Charan is even better than Chiranjeevi. I wholeheartedly agree. As a father, I am proud. But as an actor, I have to admit, it is a little hard to accept.”
Explaining why the role resonated with him, Chiranjeevi revealed that he had long wanted to headline a sports-based drama.
“When opportunities weren’t coming my way, a movie called Dangal came out in Hindi, and when I saw it, I thought, that is the kind of film I want to do. But directors with that kind of content never really came my way here,” he said.
All about Skins
Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, Skins stars Ram Charan alongside Janhvi Kapoor. The film follows the journey of Skinsa young man who discovers his purpose through sport. The story charts his rise through cricket, wrestling and sprinting before his talent eventually earns national recognition.
Despite receiving mixed-to-positive reviews, the film has emerged as a strong box-office performer, crossing the Rs 200 crore nett mark in India. It has also generated discussion around the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character, Achiyamma, with some viewers criticising the way the role was written and presented.
Amid the debate, Buchi Babu Sana recently announced that changes would be made to portions of the film currently playing in theatres.
