Alcaraz secured his second year-end world No.1 ranking for 2025 after a dominant season, with Sinner praising the Spaniard and vowing to use this as motivation for next year.

Jannik Sinner joked that he is “not super happy” about Carlos Alcaraz sealing the year-end world No.1 ranking for 2025, but insisted the Spaniard fully “deserves” the honour after producing a dominant season.
Alcaraz entered the ATP Finals in Turin with a 1,050-point lead over Sinner and needed just 451 points to clinch his second career year-end No.1.
The Spaniard achieved that with ruthless efficiency — defeating Alex de Minaur and Taylor Fritz in his first two round-robin matches. And the 600 points he earned — capped by a win over Lorenzo Musetti — mathematically locked him in as the year’s top player.
It marked the 22-year-old’s second year-end No.1 finish, following his breakthrough season in 2022; while for Sinner, it ended any hope of defending the No.1 mantle he claimed at the end of 2024.
After defeating Shelton on Friday, Sinner was asked about Alcaraz’s achievement and responded with some candour as well.
“I’m happy for him,” Sinner said, smiling. “But if I told you I was super happy… I’d be lying!
“But he deserves it. He’s had an incredible season — two Slams, eight tournaments, elite level on every surface. He handled all the pressure. He’s a really good guy with a great team, and he’s earned these achievements.”
Sinner added that falling short is only fueling his hunger:
“For me, this is motivation for next year. If someone else had to finish No.1, I’d choose him — he deserves it.”
The Italian’s 2025 campaign was interrupted by a three-month suspension, but he has still pieced together a remarkable year: Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, plus trophies in Beijing, Vienna, and Paris.
Alcaraz, on the other hand, beat Sinner in both the French Open and US Open finals this season and has claimed a tour-leading eight titles in 2025 — three more than Sinner.
Their rivalry remains the defining force of men’s tennis, and both players have continued their hot form in Turin, with a possible final match-up in the books.
