CBSE has released the complete assessment structure for Class 10 and 12 board exams 2026, detailing theory, practical and internal marks.

The Central Board of Secondary Education has issued a detailed circular outlining the complete assessment structure for the 2026 Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations. The notification provides a subject-wise breakup of theory, practical, project and internal assessment components, giving schools and students a clear overview of the evaluation pattern for the upcoming exam cycle.
With the board exams approaching, CBSE has urged all affiliated schools to carefully review the updated marking scheme to ensure smooth and error-free conduct of the examinations.
The circular includes a comprehensive annexure listing all subjects for both classes along with maximum marks for theory, practical examinations, project assessment and internal assessment.
It also specifies whether an external examiner will be appointed for a particular subject, the availability of practical answer books from the board and the type of answer book that will be used in theory examinations.
CBSE has reiterated that every subject carries a total of 100 marks, distributed across different components depending on the subject’s structure.
Practical Exams To Be Held From January 1 To February 14, 2026
In its notification issued on Tuesday, CBSE announced that practical examinations, project assessments and internal assessments for Classes 10 and 12 will be conducted between January 1 and February 14, 2026.
Schools have been directed to adhere strictly to the schedule and guidelines provided. The board has emphasised that these assessments must be conducted with complete accuracy and transparency.
CBSE has noted that schools often make mistakes while uploading marks for practical, project and internal assessments, which leads to last-minute correction requests. The board stated that such requests will not be entertained this year.
It added that the instructions and annexures should be read thoroughly to prevent errors and ensure smooth conduct of both internal and theory examinations.

Schools Asked To Follow Instructions Carefully
To maintain uniformity across all affiliated schools, CBSE has urged institutions to comply strictly with the guidelines mentioned in the circular. The board highlighted that the annexure containing subject-specific details was included to help schools plan the assessment process in advance and avoid mistakes. CBSE has reminded schools that all components must be uploaded accurately and within the stipulated time.
With the 2026 board exams nearing, CBSE’s detailed assessment structure and renewed emphasis on error-free submissions are aimed at ensuring a well-coordinated and transparent examination process for students and schools in the upcoming academic year.
