An inbound international cargo flight landed at the Chennai airport on Tuesday after a fire erupted in one of its engines. No injuries were reported, and the blaze was put down after the aircraft landed, news agency PTI quoted official sources as saying.
The flight was coming from the Malaysian city of Kuala Lumpur.
The fire erupted in the fourth engine of the cargo flight during landing, prompting the pilots to alert the officials concerned in Chennai.
Though no emergency landing was made, pilots safely landed the aircraft, they said.
Fire tenders that were on standby doused the fire soon after the carrier landed at the city airport, sources added.
A probe is underway into the cause of the fire.
In a separate incident, a small plane landing at the Montana airport crashed into parked aircraft, triggering a large fire but causing no serious injuries.
The single-engine plane carrying four people was attempting to land at about 2 pm (local time, Tuesday) at the Kalispell City Airport, according to Kalispell Police Chief Jordan Venetian and the Federal Aviation Administration.
A preliminary investigation showed the pilot lost control, crashing onto the runway before the plane struck several parked aircraft, igniting fires on multiple planes, Kalispell police said.
The fire spread to a grassy area before it was extinguished, Venetian said.
The small, city-owned airport is just south of Kalispell, a city of about 30,000 people in northwest Montana.
Earlier, a Delta Airlines plane travelling to Guatemala clipped the wing of an empty jet Sunday morning in Atlanta, the airline said in a statement.
The wing of Delta flight DL1830 “reportedly made contact” with an empty Delta jet while pushing back from the gate, an airline spokesperson told CNN.
There were no reports of injuries among the 192 passengers and six crew members on board, the carrier noted.
