A gunman shot dead a Canadian woman and injured six others before taking his own life at the Teotihuacan Pyramids, a major tourist and archaeological site outside Mexico City, authorities said on Monday.
Mexico’s security cabinet confirmed that the injured victims are receiving medical treatment. There was no immediate response from Canada’s foreign ministry to requests for comment.
Reacting to the incident, Claudia Sheinbaum expressed grief and said her government is closely monitoring developments. In a statement posted on X, she said authorities are in touch with the Canadian embassy and have ordered a thorough investigation.

“I have instructed the Security Cabinet to investigate these events and ensure all necessary support is provided,” she said, adding that officials from the interior and culture ministries have been dispatched to the site to assist alongside local authorities.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
