With the US midterm elections less than two weeks away, Donald Trump is taking his campaign to states where Republicans are fighting to hold on to Senate seats; including some where the party would ordinarily expect a comfortable victory.

The president’s next stops include Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi, Texas and Ohio, with rallies scheduled between October 24 and 28. The candidates he is backing range from Republican Senate hopefuls Mike Collins and Ken Paxton to Ohio Senator Jon Husted and gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.

The campaign blitz comes as Republicans face a difficult fight to retain control of Congress. Trump’s appearances are intended to energise his supporters and help Republican candidates turn the president’s personal following into votes on November 3.

Trump’s next rallies and who is he campaigning for?

October 24 | Perry, Georgia: Mike Collins

Trump is scheduled to rally in Perry, Georgia, in support of Republican Congressman Mike Collins, who is challenging Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff. Georgia is one of the key states in the battle for the Senate, and Ossoff’s re-election bid is a major Democratic priority.

Collins, a conservative Republican, is seeking to unseat Ossoff in a state that has become increasingly important to both parties in recent national elections.

In Texas, Trump will appear in Corpus Christi and Lubbock on October 27 to support Ken Paxton in the US Senate race against James Talarico.

  • October 25 | Port Huron, Michigan: Republican candidates

Trump heads to Port Huron, Michigan, for a rally in support of Republican candidates. The event notice does not identify a single candidate as its principal beneficiary, but the state has two major statewide contests in focus.

Republican Mike Rogers is challenging Democrat Abdul El-Sayed for the Senate, while Republican John James is running for governor against Democrat Jocelyn Benson. Both races are important to the parties’ efforts to shape Michigan’s political future.

Michigan is particularly significant because its Senate contest is considered highly competitive. Trump carried the state in the 2024 presidential election, but that does not guarantee that Republican candidates will be able to hold their ground in the midterms.

    October 26 | Corinth, Mississippi: Cindy Hyde-Smith

In Mississippi, Trump is scheduled to campaign for Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smithwho is seeking another term against Democrat Scott Colom.

Mississippi is a reliably Republican state, but the Senate contest has attracted attention after its rating shifted from solidly Republican to likely Republican. Trump’s appearance is an effort to reinforce support for Hyde-Smith and the state’s Republican candidates.

October 27 | Corpus Christi and Lubbock, Texas: Ken Paxton

Texas is among the most consequential stops on Trump’s itinerary. He is scheduled to appear in Corpus Christi and Lubbock in support of Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is running for the US Senate against Democrat James Talarico.

The race has become one of the most closely watched contests of the cycle. Texas has not elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1988, but Paxton’s contest with Talarico has emerged as a serious challenge for Republicans.

October 28 | Chillicothe, Ohio: Jon Husted and Vivek Ramaswamy

Trump’s Ohio rally is expected to support Republican Senator Jon Husted, who faces Democrat Sherrod Brown in a competitive Senate race. The event is also expected to benefit Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican candidate for governor, who is running against Democrat Amy Acton.

Ohio has moved towards Republicans in recent presidential elections, but its Senate and gubernatorial contests have become important tests of the party’s ability to maintain that advantage.
