India clinched third place in the CAFA Nations Cup, defeating Oman 3-2 on penalties for their first-ever win over Oman.

The Indian men’s football team triumphed over Oman 3-2 on penalties to secure third place in the CAFA Nations Cup on Monday, achieving their first-ever victory against their higher-ranked West Asian rivals.
This marks the first occasion India has defeated Oman in an international football match.

The game ended 1-1 in regulation time, with Udanta Singh scoring the equaliser for India.
In the penalty shootout, Oman missed their first two attempts, and Gurpreet Singh Sandhu saved the final penalty, leading India to victory in the third-fourth place classification match.
Lallianzuala Chhangte, Rahul Bheke, and Jithin MS scored for India in the shootout, while Anwar Ali and Udanta Singh missed their spot kicks at the Hisor Central Stadium.
Both teams finished second in their respective groups, setting up the contest for third place.
India had previously lost six out of their nine matches against Oman since 2000. The two teams last faced each other in March 2021, which resulted in a 1-1 draw.
