Chinese company BYD left Tesla behind in terms of sales. BYD’s sales of battery-powered cars will increase by about 28% to more than 22.5 lakh in 2025.
Elon Musk’s company Tesla has a total of 164 million electric vehicles left in 2025, which is 9% less than in 2024. Tesla’s sales have declined for the second consecutive year.
Two big reasons for declining sales According to the report, there are two main reasons behind Tesla’s declining sales. First, there is resentment among customers regarding Elon Musk’s right-wing politics and his statements. This is being called ‘customer revolt’. The second reason is the tough competition from companies like BYD in China and other foreign markets which are offering good models at lower prices than Tesla.
Sales declined, but shares rose 18% Despite declining sales and many other challenges, Tesla’s stock closed 2025 with a gain of about 18%. The reason for this is the confidence of investors in the future plans of the company. Investors are hoping that Elon Musk will deliver on his promises of robo taxi service and humanoid robots.
The company plans to make such robots that can do basic work in homes and offices. Due to these expectations, Tesla shares also saw a rise of about 2% in pre-market trading on Friday.

Who is China’s BYD? BYD’s full name is ‘Build Your Dreams’. It is a Chinese multinational company which apart from automobiles is also known for manufacturing batteries. Warren Buffett’s company Berkshire Hathaway has also invested in it. The company offers a variety of EV models at low prices, due to which it is becoming increasingly popular in China and other global markets.
