- BSNL Samman Plan: ₹1812 Annual Prepaid For Seniors 365 Days Validity, Unlimited Calls & 2GB Daily Data

Government company BSNL has launched a cheap annual plan for senior citizens. In this plan, one year validity, unlimited calling and 2GB internet data every day will be available for Rs 1812. This plan is for people above 60 years of age.
In this plan, a free SIM card will also be provided by the company. 6 months BiTV subscription will also be available free. BSNL Samman Plan has been introduced for a limited time. This 365 day mobile plan can currently be purchased only till November 18.
BSNL launched 4G service on 27 September
On completion of 25 years of BSNL, the company launched 4G service on 27 September. By rolling out BSNL 4G service across the country and releasing 92,600 new mobile towers, the company has already reduced the problem of poor network and no signal to a great extent.
BSNL has developed its own 4G technology, which is not foreign but indigenous. It will be installed at 98,000 places. Meaning, fast 4G internet will be available everywhere in villages and cities.
This network can be easily upgraded to 5G
This indigenous 4G stack of BSNL can be easily upgraded to 5G. It is cloud-based and future-ready designed. Meaning, the shift to 5G will happen only through software update. No major hardware changes will be required.
Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has also said that it is seamlessly upgradeable to 5G. That means, after the launch of 4G, preparations for 5G will be done soon.
BSNL customers are continuously decreasing
According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) data for July 2025, BSNL and MTNL are continuously losing subscribers.
BSNL’s subscribers decreased by 1.01 lakh in July, while MTNL’s subscribers also decreased. Now the market share of public sector telecom companies is less than 8%.
According to the report, Jio has added the maximum number of 4.83 lakh new mobile customers in July. Airtel added 4.64 lakh new mobile users in July.
Whereas Vodafone Idea has seen a decline in subscribers. Vodafone Idea (Vi) has lost 3.59 lakh mobile subscribers in July.
Why is BSNL in such a condition?
- After its establishment in the year 2000, BSNL officials wanted to start mobile service as soon as possible to challenge the private operators, but they did not get the necessary approval.
- The period of not getting government consent continued. While BSNL’s capacity increased marginally between 2006-12, private operators went much further.
- Due to network congestion, people left BSNL and turned to private companies. BSNL did not participate in the 3G spectrum auction in 2010 because it was a government company.
- BSNL also had to pay huge amount for Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) spectrum based on WiMAX technology. This had a direct impact on the financial condition of BSNL.
- As the mobile revolution gained momentum in the country, landline connections declined rapidly. In 2006-07, BSNL had 3.8 crore landline customers, which came down to 1.6 crore in 2014-15.
- Even when 4G spectrum was auctioned, BSNL was kept out. Due to this delay, while private companies have rolled out 5G in the country, BSNL remained stuck on 4G only.
