Former Brazil and Real Madrid football legend Roberto Carlos shared a photo of himself smiling in a hospital bed, announcing that he is “recovering well” after undergoing a heart procedure.

On Instagram, Carlos clarified circulating reports, stating, “I did not suffer a heart attack. I am recovering well and looking forward to returning to full fitness and resuming my professional and personal commitments soon,” the 52-year-old former defender elaborated.

Earlier on Wednesday, Spanish media reported that Carlos had undergone surgery in Brazil. Hospital Vila Nova Star in Sao Paulo issued a separate statement confirming that Roberto Carlos, now a Real Madrid ambassador, was diagnosed with a heart obstruction on Monday and advised to undergo a coronary angioplasty the same day. The minimally invasive procedure is designed to widen blocked or narrowed heart arteries.

Carlos explained, “I recently underwent a preventative medical procedure, planned in advance with my medical team. The procedure was successful, and I am well.” The hospital confirmed that Roberto Carlos is stable and will remain under observation in the intensive care unit as per medical protocols.

Renowned as one of the most attack-minded left backs in football history, Carlos earned 125 caps for Brazil and spent 11 years with Real Madrid. He was part of Brazil’s World Cup squads that reached the final in 1998 and clinched the title in 2002. Additionally, he played a key role in Brazil’s Copa America victories in 1997 and 1999.
