In a tragic incident reported from Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan, a young boy was critically injured after attempting to ignite a firecracker he had made after watching a demo on YouTube.

The experiment that nearly cost 13-year-old Himanshu his life began with videos on YouTube that purportedly showed how to make explosives for firecrackers at home.

The teenager reportedly bought sulphur and potash, a fertiliser made from mined and manufactured salts that contain water-soluble potassium, on October 28, and mixed them to create a compound for homemade firecrackers.

His mother, Rekha, shared that Himanshu had taken Rs 100 from her, saying he planned to buy juice and chocolates. After giving him the money, his mother left for Pilani. Himanshu bought potash and sulphur with the money, each costing Rs 50. Despite his sister’s warnings, he proceeded to grind the potash and sulphur in a mixer at home.

He then stored this mixture in a glass bottle and kept it in his pocket. While igniting firecrackers with an iron tool, he accidentally struck the bottle in his pocket, causing a powerful explosion that severely injured his leg.

Himanshu was rushed to Surjgarh CHC by his uncle and was later transferred to Jhunjhunu and subsequently to Jaipur where he remains in critical condition.
