The pop star alleges Samsung used her image on millions of TV boxes “without her knowledge” and remained “callous” when asked to stop.

‘I Only Bought The TV For Her Face’: Dua Lipa Sues Samsung For $15M For Using Her Face On TV Box
In a move that proves you should never underestimate the power of a “premium brand,” pop icon Dua Lipa has reportedly slapped tech giant Samsung with a massive $15 million lawsuit. The bone of contention? A cardboard box.
According to a complaint filed in the Central District of California, the Levitating singer discovered her face being used prominently on Samsung TV packaging across the globe without her permission. The image in question isn’t even a professional studio shot—it’s a backstage snap from the 2024 Austin City Limits Festival, to which Lipa reportedly holds the copyright. The lawsuit alleges that when the singer’s team asked Samsung to stop using the image in 2025, the company was “dismissive and callous.” Now, the 30-year-old superstar is seeking damages for copyright violation, trademark claims, and a violation of her right of publicity.
Does Dua Lipa’s Face Sell TVs?
Samsung might argue it’s just a box, but the lawsuit points to the “Dua Effect” as a major profit driver. The complaint even cites social media posts from fans who claim they were swayed by the accidental “endorsement.”
“I wasn’t even planning on buying a TV, but I saw the box so I decided to get it,” one fan reportedly wrote on X.
“I’d get that TV just because Dua Lipa is on it… That’s how much I love her,” added another.
Netizens are currently locked in a debate over whether a celebrity’s face on a box actually influences a multi-hundred-dollar purchase. “This is ridiculous! Dua Lipa! Nobody buying TVs bc the photo display. Recently bought a TV to our house hold and we looked at the specs feature provided when searching online. It had Oppenheimer picture I never seen that movie and don’t plan on seeing that movie in the future,” wrote one user.
Another added, “One unauthorized campaign can cost more than the entire ad budget.” Some people opined that she does have brand value, otherwise Samsung would not have used the image. “If Samsung doesn’t think her face sells TVs, then why did they put it on the box? They could have used a picture of a bowl of fruit or a landscape. They chose to print it on a million boxes because her image has value.”
