Hari Menon, co-founder of Tata-owned online grocery platform BigBasket, has resigned from the post of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The company made its official announcement on June 16.

Amit Nanda, who has spent more than 11 years in e-commerce sector giant Amazon, will now take over the responsibility as the new CEO of BigBasket.

Co-founder Hari Menon will remain on the board

Despite this major leadership change in BigBasket, the company’s co-founders Hari Menon and Vipul Parekh are not leaving the company completely.

Both of them will remain on the board of the company. Along with this, he will also continue to mentor the new leadership and leadership team.

Changes in the race for quick commerce

This change in the top leadership of BigBasket has happened at a time when the race for quick commerce has become very intense in the Indian market.

Currently, there is a race between Blinkit, Swiggy’s Instamart, Zepto, Flipkart Minutes and Amazon Now to capture the market.

Why is Amit Nanda’s arrival from Amazon special?

  • Amit Nanda was on the post of ‘Director of Selling Partner Services’ in Amazon. His leaving Amazon and coming to BigBasket has come at a very important time.
  • Amazon itself is currently preparing to challenge quick-commerce companies. Industry insiders are seeing ‘Amazon Now’ as a very aggressive contender to make a place in the top tier of this market.
  • However, in this era of quick commerce, this step of Amazon is also being understood as an attempt to remain relevant, because now the difference between quick commerce and e-commerce is almost disappearing.

There was a reshuffle in the management for the last few months.

Over the past few months, BigBasket has been busy strengthening its leadership team and making changes in management positions. Under this, two more big appointments have been made in the company recently…

Sheshu has been associated with BigBasket since 2014 and has previously served as National Head (Buying and Merchandising) and later as Chief Buying and Merchandising Officer. He is now leading the operations.
  • Arpit Jaiswal becomes CGO: Earlier in the month of April, the company had appointed Arpit Jaiswal as Chief Growth Officer (CGO).
