Bank Holidays This Week: Banks will be closed this week for several days from December 29, 2025 to January 2, 2026 under the RBI holiday calendar. These holidays are not uniform nationwide and vary from state to state. That means on some dates, banks in certain states will remain closed, while in others, they will function normally.
Are Banks Open Or Closed On New Year’s Eve And New Year?
A lot of customers are willing to know if banks are open on December 31, New Year’s Eve and January 01, New Year. Well, the answer depends on where you reside.
Banks in Shillong will be shut down on December 30, 2025 on account of Death Anniversary of U Kiang Nangbah.
On December 31, 2025, banks will be closed in Aizawl and Imphal only. Banks in other states will function normally.
On New Year 2026, banks will be closed only in Aizawl, Chennai, Gangtok, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Kolkata and Shillong. Apart from these mentioned cities and their states, banks will resume as usual.
Aizawl, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram have been marked under RBI holiday on January 02 for New Year Celebration/ Mannam Jayanthi. It means banks will be closed there on the same day.
During bank holidays, customers can continue to access services through net banking, mobile banking, UPI, and ATMs. However, cheque clearing and other over-the-counter services under the Negotiable Instruments Act will not be available.
Banks Timings
Most major banks in India, including SBI, Bank of India, and Punjab National Bank, operate between 10 am and 4 pm, while ICICI, HDFC, Axis, Yes Bank, and Kotak Mahindra Bank usually function from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm or 3:30 pm, depending on the branch. Bank of Baroda has slightly extended hours, operating between 9:45 am and 4:45 pm or 10 am to 5 pm, and Canara Bank typically works from 10 am to 3:30 pm.
