Badminton World Championships Live Day 4: Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu headlines India’s challenge today in the ongoing BWF World Championships 2026 as she takes on China’s third seed Wang Zhi Yi in the women’s singles pre-quarterfinals. Sindhu, seeded ninth, reached the last 16 with a 21-16, 21-17 victory over Canada’s Wen Yu Zhang.
The 2019 world champion is bidding for an unprecedented sixth World Championships medal.
In men’s singles, fast-rising Ayush Shetty will face Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan in the pre-quarterfinals. Shetty advanced to the last 16 after a dominant 21-8, 21-10 win over Sri Lanka’s Dumindu Abeywickrama.
India’s fifth-seeded men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will also begin their campaign in the pre-quarterfinals. The pair, who have already won two bronze medals at the World Championships, advanced after their second-round opponents, Scotland’s Alexander Dunn and Adam Pringle, withdrew after Dunn suffered a right ankle injury.
In mixed doubles, Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila will look to continue their run after reaching the pre-quarterfinals with a 21-11 21-11 win over Macau’s Leong Iok Chong and Ng Weng Chi.
