Atletico Madrid will only sanction Alvarez’s departure to Premier League side Arsenal if the London-based club submits an offer worth €150 million.

La Liga club Atletico Madrid are reportedly ready to sell Argentina forward Julian Alvarez. However, they will only sanction his departure to Premier League side Arsenal if the London-based club submits an offer worth €150 million.
The 2025-26 Premier League champions are long-term admirers of the former Manchester City forward, but it is highly unlikely that they will match Atletico’s valuation.
The Argentina superstar, who scored for Lionel Messi’s side in their FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-final against Switzerland, is reportedly only interested in joining FC Barcelona. However, Atletico are not interested in selling him to their La Liga rivals.
According to a report in The Athletic, Alvarez is not interested in joining Arsenal.
“The only way Alvarez leaving this summer would be if Arsenal made a €150 million offer. That has yet to arrive,” a source close to the Atletico leadership was quoted as saying by The Athletic.
Sources within Barcelona’s dressing room say that the Catalan club are aware of Alvarez’s desire to join them. Their officials are still keeping an eye on him and are willing to wait until the very end of the summer transfer window.
Alvarez jeered by Atletico fans
Alvarez played his first match of the new season for Atletico on Sunday (August 23) against Villarreal. However, he was booed by the Madrid-based club’s fans when he came on as a substitute in the second half of the 2-2 draw.
In several videos going viral on social media, supporters can be heard chanting, “Tell him to f***ing go.”
Alvarez was also whistled and insulted by Atletico Madrid fans at full-time. He did not applaud the supporters alongside his teammates and instead went straight down the tunnel.
However, during his post-match interaction with the media, Atletico manager Diego Simeone stated that it was the club’s decision for Alvarez not to approach the fans with his teammates.
When asked about the whistles directed at Alvarez and what advice he would give the forward, Simeone said: “I’m not here to give advice. What I have to do is concentrate on my work, which is, from a sporting sense, to give my best for Atletico Madrid.
“The only thing I know is that if Atletico Madrid want to win a title, we need to be together, we need to have forwards, and we need to have important forwards. And for that, we need to work on it as a result, everyone, on what we need.”
