India’s Pradeep Kumar secured his second consecutive silver medal, while compatriot Ayush Verma claimed bronze in the men’s javelin throw F53/54 event at the 2026 Asian Para Games in Nagoya on Tuesday.
Competing in the F54 category, Pradeep recorded a personal best of 27.45m to finish second. Ayush, an F53 athlete, completed a double podium finish for India by taking bronze with a throw of 17.88m, earning enough Raza points to secure his position despite the shorter distance.
The 35-year-old Indian finished ahead of Thailand’s Sahar-dam Yaena, an F54 competitor who registered 23.31m. Ayush’s higher Raza points, awarded in consideration of his greater degree of disability, helped him finish above the Thai athlete.
Raza points are used to convert performances into scores based on the degree of disability when athletes from different classifications compete in a combined event.
Iran’s Erfan Bandori retained his gold medal, setting a new Games record with a throw of 30.24m.
F53 athletes generally have full function in their arms and hands but lack abdominal and lower spinal muscle activity, resulting in an inability to maintain sitting balance.
F54 athletes, meanwhile, have full muscle power in their upper arms and partial to full trunk muscle power. However, movement in the mid-trunk and legs remains significantly impaired.
