Arne Slot has spoken publicly for the first time since his departure from Liverpool, releasing a heartfelt farewell letter that reflected on title glory, personal tragedy and his enduring connection with the club’s supporters.

The Dutchman, who succeeded Jurgen Klopp and guided Liverpool to a memorable Premier League title in his first season, was dismissed after a disappointing second campaign that ended with the Reds finishing fifth and narrowly securing Champions League qualification.

While his exit may have come under difficult circumstances, Slot’s final message focused on gratitude rather than regret.

A Dream First Season

For many Liverpool supporters, Slot’s legacy will forever be tied to the club’s historic 20th league title.

In his letter, the former manager recalled the emotions of walking beneath the famous “This Is Anfield” sign for the first time and the responsibility that came with leading one of football’s biggest institutions.

“That all of those emotions would culminate in a Premier League title after just 12 months was beyond special,” Slot wrote.

The triumph carried extra significance because supporters were able to celebrate alongside the team at Anfield and throughout the city, something many felt was missing during Liverpool’s pandemic-era title success in 2020.

Remembering Diogo Jota

Slot also reflected on one of the darkest chapters of his tenure: the tragic death of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva in a car accident last July.

Describing the loss as “indescribable,” Slot paid tribute to Jota not only as a footballer but as a friend and teammate.

“In one of the most difficult moments this club has faced, the love, compassion and support shown by the Liverpool family was extraordinary,” he said.

The Dutchman added that the way supporters honoured Jota’s memory would stay with him forever.

A Club Built On Unity

Throughout the letter, Slot repeatedly thanked Liverpool’s supporters, staff and players for making him feel at home from day one.

“You made me feel welcome from the start and helped me on the path. That is something I cherish,” he wrote.

Slot also acknowledged everyone behind the scenes, from coaching staff and players to canteen workers and ground staff, praising the collective effort that helped deliver success.

Looking Ahead With Confidence

Despite his departure, Slot insisted Liverpool remain firmly among Europe’s elite.

“I leave knowing the club is exactly where it belongs: amongst Europe’s elite,” he wrote.

He highlighted the importance of securing Champions League football and expressed confidence in both the current squad and the next generation of players emerging at the club.

“Change is part of football, but I know that this club will continue to make its people proud.”
