The FIFA World Cup 2026 is already shaping up to be a spectacle. But for fans, it might also be shaping up to be expensive business.
The Boston host committee has unveiled the “Boston Stadium Express,” a dedicated shuttle service to Gillette Stadium — priced at a cool ₹8,840.90.
Yes, you read that right. Almost ₹9k for a mere bus ride. How convenient,
Partnering with Yankee Line, the service is expected to cater to around 10,000 fans per match, operating from over 100 hotels across Greater Boston. Buses will start rolling three hours before kickoff, with return trips beginning 30 minutes after the final whistle.
On paper, it’s efficient. In reality? It’s sparked plenty of debate.
Mike Loynd, President of the Boston 2026 Host Committee, defended the move, stating, “Providing fans with clear, reliable transportation is essential to delivering a positive tournament experience.”
But here’s the catch: fans must already hold a valid match ticket just to board the bus. And tickets for the service must be pre-booked, with limited availability. All this means that convenience is set to come at quite a steep cost.
The bus service announcement arrives amid growing concerns about rising ticket prices, premium seating tiers, and ongoing tweaks to seating allocations — all under FIFA’s broader push for a “global and inclusive” tournament.
While the tournament expands to 48 teams and promises to bring the world together, the financial barrier to actually being there seems to be climbing just as fast.
The beautiful game is going global, yet becoming a luxury for fans to experience.
