Actors Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan are set to reunite for a new comedy-drama directed by Anees Bazmee. The Bhooth Bangla actor confirmed the project on Thursday with an Instagram post. He shared a video that showed him and Vidya boarding a flight as they left for Kerala, where the team is scheduled to begin shooting for the film.
In the caption, the 58-year-old actor said they were travelling to Kerala for Bazmee’s next film. He described it as his fourth film with Vidya and said he hoped their pairing would continue to bring luck. The post also gave the first direct update on the film and showed the two actors heading out together for the shoot.
A familiar screen pairing
The new film extends a working relationship that has already produced several familiar titles. Akshay and Vidya appeared together in Bhool Bhulaiyaawhich was released in 2007. The same year, they also shared screen space in Heyy Babyy. They later returned together in Mission Mangalwhich was released in 2019.
Their past films have moved across different genres, from comedy to drama. That is one reason the latest announcement has drawn attention. Bazmee’s film now brings them together again for another comedy-drama.
What they are doing next
Akshay was recently seen in Bhooth Bangladirected by Priyadarshan. The film marked his reunion with the director after 14 years. Its cast also includes Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Mithila Palkar, and late actor Asrani, among others.
Meanwhile, Vidya will be next seen in Raja Shivaji. The film is directed by Riteish Deshmukh, who also stars in it as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It follows the warrior king’s journey from his youth to the establishment of Swarajya. Along with Riteish and Vidya, the film also stars Sanjay Dutt and Genelia Deshmukh among others. Raja Shivaji is set to release on May 1.
