The Ahmedabad plane crash seems to have triggered a series of flight disruptions for Air India across the country.

After the June 12 crash of a Boeing 787-8 shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, killing 241 of 242 people on board, Air India flights have seen a string of flight returns, technical issues, and delays caused by crew duty limits.
Today, Air India cancelled three international flights as part of precautionary checks on its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, following heightened safety scrutiny by aviation authorities in the aftermath of the Ahmedabad crash.
Recently, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and aviation authorities from India, the UK, and the US have launched a joint investigation and mandated a full inspection of Air India’s entire Dreamliner fleet.
Flight AI159 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick was called off due to aircraft unavailability, leading to the cancellation of its return leg, AI170 from Gatwick to Amritsar.
Similarly, flight AI143 from Delhi to Paris was cancelled today, along with the return flight AI142 scheduled for June 18. Additionally, the Bangalore to London service was also grounded today under the ongoing inspection protocol.
The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 passengers and crew members, crashed into a doctor’s hostel shortly after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12.

Flight Cancellations
Ahmedabad-Gatwick (AI159) & Gatwick-Amritsar (AI170)
Flight AI159 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick was cancelled due to aircraft unavailability amid precautionary checks after the June 12 Dreamliner crash. As a result, AI170 from Gatwick to Amritsar on June 17 was also cancelled.
Delhi-Paris (AI143 & AI142)
Flight AI143 from Delhi to Paris was cancelled on June 17, and its return leg, AI142 from Paris to Delhi scheduled for June 18, has also been called off.
Bangalore-London (Boeing 787)
Air India’s flight from Bangalore to London today was cancelled as part of a broader safety review of its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, said officials. The cancellation follows two other international Air India flight disruptions today, bringing the total to three so far.
The airline is conducting detailed inspections of its Dreamliner aircraft after heightened scrutiny by aviation authorities following the recent Ahmedabad crash.
Mumbai-Ahmedabad (AI2493)
Another Air India’s Airbus-operated flight AI2493 from Mumbai to Ahmedabad was cancelled on June 16 after crew reached their Flight Duty Time limit following operational delays.
Technical Diversions & Emergency Returns
San Francisco-Kolkata-Mumbai (AI180)
A Boeing 777‑200LR operating flight AI180 experienced a left-engine issue during its layover in Kolkata early June 17. Passengers were deplaned as a safety precaution; maintenance is ongoing, said officials aware of the development.
Hong Kong-Delhi (AI315)
Flight AI315, a Boeing 787‑8 from Hong Kong to Delhi on June 16, turned back shortly after takeoff due to a suspected technical glitch. The plane landed safely in Hong Kong and has since been inspected.
Delhi-Ranchi (AI Express)
An Air India Express flight bound for Ranchi from Delhi returned to its departure airport on June 16 following an unspecified technical fault
Emergency Landing
Phuket-New Delhi
An Air India flight from Phuket to New Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing back in Thailand last Friday following a bomb threat onboard, according to Reuters. The threat was discovered in a lavatory after takeoff, and all 156 passengers on flight AI379 were safely escorted off the aircraft.
These incidents come amid heightened safety scrutiny and global disruptions triggered by the June 12 crash of Air India Flight AI171, after which authorities launched fleet-wide inspections and imposed precautionary checks.
