Air India said that aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices have seen significant fluctuations in recent months. ATF’s share in the cost is about 40 percent. The statement said that the prices of plane fuel have increased in recent times. This has made flight operations expensive. ATF accounts for about 40 percent of an airline’s flight operation costs. For domestic flights, the revised fuel surcharge ranges from Rs 400 to Rs 1,200, depending on the distance. Fuel surcharges for international flights range from US$55 to US$215, depending on the region and country. Jet fuel becomes costlier by ₹ 16 from October 1. The company has taken the decision to increase the fare due to the cost of fuel used in airplanes. From October 1, the price for domestic airlines has increased from ₹121 to ₹137. That means the price of 1 liter ATF has increased by Rs 16 (about 13.2%).
