Scientists from many institutions including America’s Stanford University have together created an Artificial Intelligence Model (AI) named ‘Sleep FM’.

According to research published in ‘Nature Medicine’, this model can predict the risk of 130 diseases based on a person’s one night’s sleep.

The accuracy of the AI model’s prediction on C-index has come to more than 0.75. In simple words, it has been more than 75% accurate. These also include predicting the risk of death from any cause.

Sleep FM predicts disease risk based on PSG (polysomnography) data. It has been trended through more than 5.85 lakh hours of PSG records from 65 thousand people.

His health records were taken from Stanford’s Sleep Clinic. According to researchers, there were more than a thousand categories of diseases in the records. Of these, 130 were predicted with accuracy based on sleep data.

Model combines multiple types of data

Emmanuel Mignot, professor of sleep medicine in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University and senior author of the research, said – A large number of signals are recorded in the study of sleep. For 8 hours, an eye is kept on a person who is in complete control.

He has said that the AI model understands many types of data by combining them together. It studies the hidden physiology of sleep and its changing patterns over time based on signals from brain activity (EEG/EOG), heartbeat (ECG), muscle activity (EMG), and breathing.
