The Agniveer scheme allows for army and navy recruitment in different roles with customised pay packages that come with an array of benefits.

Agniveers serving in the Indian Armed Forces take up various defence roles in the Indian Navy and the Indian Army, receiving a salary package that includes several allowances and benefits. Selection for these important roles, responsible for protecting India’s borders and maritime territories, takes place through a rigorous recruitment process. Candidates are appointed to positions such as chef, steward, and hygienist under the Agniveer Navy MR scheme, and General Duty (GD), Clerk, or Tradesman under the Army Agniveer scheme.
As is known, the Agniveer service duration lasts four years for both the Indian Navy and Indian Army roles and responsibilities as per the Central Government regulations. While the qualification required for the Army Agniveer role stands at 8th, 10th and 12th pass, subject to the role, it goes up to 10th Pass with at least 50 per cent marks and the age bracket of 17-21 years for the Indian Navy. The qualification reflects the government’s recruitment of young people for the Agniveer programme.
Indian Army Agniveer Salary
Indian Army’s Agniveer recruits receive a customised package depending on the skill and the role assigned to them. As mentioned above, it includes the risk and hardship allowance in an overall exciting salary package for their four-year service term. An Indian Army Agnineer’s starting in-hand salary is Rs 21,000 of the Rs 30,000 customised package.
The salary covers allowances provided by the government of India. The allowances are not paid separately as the Dearness Allowance (DA) offered to the government employees or the Military Service Pay (MSP) given to long-term army personnel. During their four-year term, an Agniveer does not contribute to the Armed Forces Provident Fund or any other Provident Fund. They do not receive gratuity or pension benefits.
The total contribution in the Agniveer Corpus Fund and therefore the Seva Nidhi Package due after exit at the end of four years in service will be Rs 10.04 lakh.
Indian Navy Agniveer’s Salary Package
Like the Indian Army, the Indian Navy also offers a competitive salary package for Agniveers. This package is designed to support an Agniveer’s financial journey and future growth over four years and beyond. The Navy Agniveers are also given the risk and hardship allowance alongside allowances for dress, travel, house rent and MSP.
The salary structure and contributions towards the Agniveer Corpus Fund are the same for Navy Agniveers as for Army Agniveers, following a 70-30 allocation. The fund for Agniveer Corpus is matched by the government with an equal contribution. It collectively forms the robust ‘Seva Nidhi’ package that an Agniveer receives upon exit.

Other Benefits
As an Indian Navy Agniveer, you get a non-contributory Life Insurance Cover of Rs 48 lakh during the tenure. In case the Agniveer faces death attributable to the service, an additional Rs 44 lakh – one-time ex gratia – is provided. The government also provides comprehensive medical care to Navy Agniveers alongside a supportive leave policy and disability compensation.
In the Indian Army, Agniveers receive insurance coverage based on contributions of Rs 5,000 per month towards the Army Group Insurance Fund, which secures them for Rs 50 lakh. An ex gratia sum of Rs 44 lakh has also been allocated for Agniveers who face attributable casualty.
