The father of Agni missile and the country’s famous scientist Dr. Ram Narayan Agarwal is no more. He breathed his last in Hyderabad at the age of 84. According to DRDO officials, he was the first program director of Agni missile. People also fondly called him ‘Agni Agarwal’ and ‘Agni Man’.

Dr. Agarwal retired as the Director of ASL. He successfully ran the Agni missile program for two decades. He personally worked on the re-entry of the missile’s warhead, composite heat shield, board propulsion system, guidance and control, etc.

At this time the entire DRDO is mourning the death of Dr. Agarwal. Former DRDO chief and missile scientist Dr. G. Satish Reddy said that India has lost a legend. He had helped a lot in developing long range missiles and building their launch facilities.

India’s Agni missiles…

Agni-1… This is the country’s surface-to-surface missile. Its range is 900 to 1200 kilometers. It can be fitted with conventional and nuclear weapons. It has been deployed in the country’s security since 2002. In future, Agni-Prime will replace this missile.

Agni-2… This is also a medium range surface-to-surface ballistic missile. Its range is 2000 to 3500 kilometers. It can also attack targets with conventional or nuclear weapons. It has been protecting the country since 2010.

Agni-3… The range of this missile is 3 to 5 thousand kilometers. That is, the range can be increased or decreased by increasing or decreasing the weight of the weapon. With this range, a large part of China, entire Pakistan, entire Afghanistan, Horn of Africa, Arab countries, Indonesia, Myanmar and many other countries are within its range. Its speed is 18,522 kilometers per hour.

Agni-4… Its weight is 17 thousand kg. It can carry three types of weapons. These include conventional, thermobaric and strategic nuclear weapons. Its range is 3500 to 4000 km. It can fly straight up to a maximum height of 900 km.

Agni-5… This is an intercontinental ballistic missile. This is the country’s only missile, whose range will now cover the upper part of Russia, half of Africa, northern part of Australia, Greenland. A nuclear weapon weighing 1500 kg can be installed on it. Its speed is 24 times more than the speed of sound. It attacks the enemy at a speed of 29,401 km/hr.
