In the wake of a recent student suicide case, Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood has ordered a comprehensive review of mental-health practices across all schools in the national capital. The government has begun writing to schools to check whether the mental-health standards prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) are being properly implemented.
Sood said the government would extend full support to any school that requires help in strengthening its mental-health framework. “It is our responsibility to ensure that the next generation remains mentally healthy and does not fall into distress,” he said.
A committee has also been constituted to investigate whether institutions have been following the prescribed mental-health guidelines. The panel is expected to submit its report within three days.
Alongside the mental-health review, Delhi’s schools are set to undergo extensive upgrades aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Sood announced that campuses across the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Delhi government will be modernised using CSR funds, with improvements planned in classroom design, furniture, and the introduction of AI-based teaching tools.
Speaking at an event, the minister said, “It fills me with pride to be among our young learners today. Having studied in a government school myself, this feels like a homecoming; these bags we hand out today are not just for books, they carry the dreams and aspirations of students.”

He added that, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the government aims to upgrade Delhi’s public schools to a level where “future generations will seek recommendations for admission”.
Sood also urged teachers to take on a stronger role in driving transformation within classrooms, saying that the responsibility for improving education is shared by the government, community and partner organisations.
