An e-rickshaw driver walked into a district hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district with a 1.5-foot-long snake in his pocket, which had allegedly bitten him, officials said on Tuesday.
PTI quoted Chief Medical Superintendent Neeraj Agrawal saying Deepak (39), a local, was bitten by the snake on Monday and came to the hospital for an anti-venom injection.
“The patient was told to leave the reptile outside as it was putting the lives of other patients in danger,” he said.
Dainik Bhaskar quoted Deepak saying that when he was going to Vrindavan to get a battery for his e-rickshaw, a snake bit him near PMB Polytechnic College between Mathura and Vrindavan.
In a viral video on social media, Deepak said: “I came from Vrindavan. I have been waiting for treatment for past half hour in Mathura district hospital. The government hospital doesn’t have basic facilities for treatment. I was forced to stage sit-in on the road.”

The passersby could be heard urging him to throw away the snake instead of keeping it in his jacket.
Later, the doctors had informed the police who then immediately arrived. The police calmed Deepak and contained the snake in a box.
Doctors later said that Deepak’s treatment is ongoing and his condition is stable.
The hospital authorities later added that it is suspected that the snake belonged to Deepak.
