Pakistan batter Gull Feroza has been fined 10 per cent of her match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during her team’s Women’s Asia Cup Group A match against Hong Kong in Dubai on Monday.
The latest sanction comes shortly after Pakistan captain Fatima Sana was fined 10 per cent of her match fee for an incident during the team’s Group A match against India.
Feroza was found guilty of a Level 1 breach of Article 2.8, which relates to showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match. The incident occurred in the fifth over of Pakistan’s innings after Feroza was adjudged leg-before wicket.
The Pakistan batter expressed her disappointment with the decision by showing her bat to the umpire, indicating that she had edged the delivery. She admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Supriya Rani Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, meaning no formal hearing was required.
Feroza was also handed one demerit point, taking her tally to two within a 24-month period. Her previous demerit point came during Pakistan’s Women’s T20 World Cup match against Australia on June 23, when she was reprimanded for throwing her bat and gloves aggressively after being dismissed.
Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum fine of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee and one or two demerit points.
PAKISTAN QUALIFY FOR WOMEN’S ASIA CUP SEMIS
Feroza’s sanction came a day after Pakistan secured their place in the Women’s Asia Cup semi-finals with a 72-run victory over Hong Kong.
Pakistan posted 143 for eight before left-arm spinner Nashra Sandhu produced a record-breaking spell of 6/7 to bowl Hong Kong out for 71. The win confirmed Pakistan’s progression from Group A and ended Hong Kong’s campaign.
Pakistan had earlier suffered a heavy defeat against India but bounced back against Hong Kong to finish their group-stage campaign with a win.
Fatima, meanwhile, was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the match against India. The provision relates to language, actions or gestures that disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter after their dismissal. The incident involved India’s Shafali Verma.
Fatima was also handed one demerit point, taking her tally to two within a 24-month period.
Pakistan finished second in Group A with four points and a net run rate of +0.927, having won two of their three matches.
