In yet another incident of a dowry-related death, a 24-year-old woman died by suicide in Karnataka’s Ballari district after allegedly facing harassment by her husband and mother-in-law.

Aishwarya, 24, was married to Pradeep Kumar, a veterinarian in the Animal Husbandry Department, in a love marriage. Her family members alleged that she had faced mental harassment by her husband and mother-in-law over dowry demands.

Aishwarya’s parents claimed she was distressed over the continuous harassment at her in-laws’ home and was also upset that her husband did not come to her support despite the alleged behaviour of his mother, police said.

Unable to cope with the situation, she reportedly returned to her parental home and died by suicide. Police recovered a suicide note from the scene, where Aishwarya mentioned the alleged harassment by her husband and mother-in-law.

A case has been registered at the Kampli Police Station in Karnataka, and police have arrested Pradeep Kumar and his mother for further investigation.
