A 27-year-old security guard suffered burn injuries to his face and chest after his wife allegedly threw boiling tea at him during an argument. The incident occured at their residence in Pune’s Kothrud area on Wednesday morning, police said.
The couple, married for about a year, had reportedly been arguing since late night on Tuesday, December 30. The argument continued into the early hours of Wednesday while the husband was preparing tea in the kitchen. As the dispute escalated, the 22-year-old woman is alleged to have picked up the teapot and hurled it at him, causing the hot tea to spill over his upper body.
Neighbours rushed the man to a nearby hospital, where doctors said he is out of danger and undergoing treatment.
Based on the husband’s complaint, the Kothrud police have registered an offence under Section 324 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon. “Preliminary inquiry suggests the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute. Further investigation is under way, and action will be taken as per law,” said senior inspector Sandeep Deshmane.
Police have recorded statements of neighbours, some of whom said frequent arguments were heard from the flat but they had not anticipated the situation turning serious.
