The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has partnered with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to address substance abuse in schools across the country. On September 3, 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed, followed by an Awareness Programme for principals and counsellors. This initiative will feature workshops, counselling sessions, and strategies to foster drug-free school environments, empowering students to make responsible choices.
“The issue of substance abuse continues to pose a serious challenge, adversely affecting the health, wellbeing, and future prospects of students. In this regard, schools have a pivotal responsibility in fostering safe and supportive environments that discourage substance misuse and promote positive lifestyle choices,” the board stated in an official notice.
The Memorandum of Understanding will be signed at the CBSE Headquarters in Dwarka, New Delhi. This collaboration aims to establish drug-free environments in CBSE-affiliated schools across the nation through coordinated awareness programs, workshops, and counselling initiatives.
Following the MoU signing, CBSE will conduct an Awareness Programme for school principals and counsellors, focusing on substance abuse prevention. This programme will provide practical strategies for educators to enhance their roles in fostering safe and supportive school communities.
CBSE emphasised the crucial role of schools in shaping student behaviour and promoting positive lifestyle choices. By equipping educators and counsellors with knowledge, resources, and intervention strategies, the initiative seeks to prevent substance misuse and protect students’ health and well-being.
“This initiative marks a significant step towards building drug-free school environments. Through this collaboration, CBSE and NCB will jointly undertake awareness program, workshops, and counselling initiatives to empower educators, counselors, and students to make responsible and healthy life choices,” the notice added.
The CBSE-NCB collaboration reflects a nationwide commitment to preventive education, aiming to create safer school spaces and equip students with the awareness and tools to resist substance abuse. This move highlights the crucial role of schools in protecting the next generation from growing societal challenges.
