The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Chennai, honored its alumni at the Crystal Connections Alumni Meet held on 15 August 2025 (Friday) with the Alumni Excellence Awards.
Cinema icon and MP Dr. Kamal Haasan attended the ceremony as the chief guest. VIT founder-Vice Chancellor Dr. G. Vishwanathan presided over the ceremony, while VIT Vice President Dr. G.V. Selvam welcomed everyone.
Dr. Kamal Haasan said in his speech that youth should face failures in life firmly and move towards success.
He said, “We rarely talk of a freedom-the freedom to fail, without which no new discovery is possible.
The country that is afraid of failure, never knows its true strength. Failure in India is often seen as a life -long sentence, and this fear eliminates more dreams than poverty. “

He told that there are many such failures behind every success story, which people do not see. “The more you fail, the more you learn.” He said- “If freedom means, it is the right to fall without fear and then the right to get up”.
Giving the example of startups, Dr. Kamal Haasan said that 90 out of every 100 ideas fail in the first five years. It is seen as an experience in Silicon Valley, but in India it is considered as embarrassment.
VIT founder and Vice Chancellor Dr. G. Vishwanathan said in his presidential speech that he firmly believed that only education, especially higher education, can make India a developed country. He said “We all want India to become a developed country and it is only possible with higher education and work opportunities”.
VIT Vice-Pressurer Dr. G.V. Selvam said in his speech that students should give jobs to others by becoming entrepreneurs instead of finding jobs. He said, “People who go abroad for employment, I want to tell them- go there, learn, earn and then come back to your country (India) and serve it. Learn, earn and return. Don’t be the job seekers, be the jobbers, you should give jobs to others.”
In this ceremony, VIT Vice-Chancellor Dr. V.S. Kanchana Bhaskaran, Prof. Vice Chancellor of VIT Chennai, Dr. T. Tyagarajan, Director Dr. K.K. Satyanarayanan, Additional Registrar Dr. P.K. Manoharan and Dr. Manojkumar Rajagopal, President of the Institutional Chennai Chapter of VIT Alumni Association also participated.
