If CM Is Not Safe, How Can Common Citizens Be?: Delhi Congress Condemns Attack On Rekha Gupta

Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav on Wednesday condemned the alleged attack on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, stating that the incident raises serious concerns about women’s safety.

Yadav also questioned the safety of women in the national capital, saying that if the Chief Minister is not secure, the safety of ordinary citizens is also at risk.

“This is very unfortunate. The CM leads the entire Delhi, and I think that the more such incidents are condemned, the less it is. But this incident also exposes women’s safety. If the CM of Delhi is not safe, how can a common man or common woman be safe?” Yadav said.

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva

Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Virendra Sachdeva said that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was speaking with the public when a man approached her, presented some papers, and suddenly held her hand while trying to pull her towards him.

“During Jan Sunvai this morning, the CM was speaking with the public like she always does. A man approached her, presented some papers, and suddenly held her hand while trying to pull her towards him. During this, there was a little jostling. People nabbed him. Who he is and all other details are being investigated by the police,” he said.

Sachdeva said that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is stable and appears to have suffered a light blow to her head. He also clarified that reports of a slap or stone-throwing are fabricated.

“The CM is stable. Doctors have examined her. I have met her; she is a strong woman. It seems she suffered a light blow to her head. The slap or stone-throwing stories are fabricated. Such incidents in politics are condemnable. Jan Sunvai will continue. The CM is resting right now but has said that she will not cancel her programs,” Virendra Sachdeva told reporters.

Police Arrest Accused

The accused has been apprehended by the Delhi Police and taken to the Civil Lines police station for questioning.

“One person apprehended and taken to Civil Lines Police Station in connection with attack on Delhi CM Rekha Gupta during Jan Sunvai at CM Residence,” Delhi Police said in a statement.
