Heavy traffic in Delhi-NCR was reported ahead of Raksha Bandhan weekend. Delhi Traffic Police advised commuters to use alternate routes and public transport on NH-44.

Heavy traffic was reported in several parts of Delhi-NCR on Friday as commuters began travelling ahead of the Raksha Bandhan weekend. With the festival falling just before the weekend, the Delhi Traffic Police has warned of congestion on major highways as large numbers of people are expected to leave the city.
The traffic police, in its advisory, cautioned that those heading towards Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, and Chandigarh via National Highway-44 and the Singhu border may face long delays and should consider taking alternate routes.
The advisory also urged commuters to plan their journeys in advance and suggested public transportation, such as the Delhi Metro, as a convenient alternative to avoid road congestion and ensure a smoother commute during the festive rush.
“Due to the upcoming Raksha Bandhan festival coinciding with the weekend, a large number of commuters are expected to travel out of Delhi via National Highways. To avoid congestion, commuters heading towards Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat and Chandigarh through NH-44 and the Singhu border are advised to consider alternate routes,” the advisory read on X.
Officials have also suggested the use of public transportation to ease pressure on roadways. “Public transportation options like the Delhi Metro can be a convenient alternative to reach your destination. Plan your journey in advance to ensure a smooth commute,” it added.
