Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol said that incidents of 6 aircraft engines and 3 Made calls have come to light in 2025 so far. One of these three Made calls was of flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to London on June 12, in which 270 people died.
In response to the question of MP Rajiv Shukla in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, the minister said that 2 engines failed and 1 Made calls in IndiGo, 2 engines failed in SpiceJet, 1 engine failed in Air India and a Made Call (AI-171), 1 Made Call in AI-India Express, 1 Made Call Fail in Alliance Air.

Mayday taken from French word
The word Mayday is derived from the French word ‘M’Aider’. This means ‘help me’ means ‘save me’. Mayday call is usually sent to ATC or other nearby aircraft through radio. This signal is used to get immediate assistance and priority, so that emergency can be dealt with and can get timely help.
