Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India is preparing to launch cheap electric bikes in India. The company has recently applied a patent of an electric bike in the Indian Patent Office (IPO). This has shown that the company is working on electric motorcycles, which will be based on the Shine 100 platform.
Patent documents have shown that this bike will have electric motors and removable battery packs instead of petrol engine. These batteries Activa E: will be swapbles like a scooter. That is, you will be able to easily change them at the charging station. Like the e-Ekiva, the weight of each battery is about 10.2 kg and will have two battery packs that will fit the mid section of the bike.

Single-speed gear compact motor will be available
Honda’s plan is to save time and money to make new bikes. For this, she will use the chassis of Shine 100. Electric setup will be added to it by making a slight change. With this, the price of the new bike will also be low and will be able to launch in the market quickly.
Patent images suggest that the engine will be a compact motor instead of the engine, which will power the rear wheel from a single-speed gear. Like the battery pack engine, there will be an angleed forward and there will be a gap between them which will become a channel for air. These channels will cool the battery and electronic control unit.

Honda electric bikes will find two swapable battery packs.
The range can be between 100 and 120 kilometers
Although Honda has not yet revealed official specifications, the Shine 100 is estimated that it can give the top speed of electric version 80-85kmph.
Talking about the range, it can be between 100 and 120 kilometers, which will be enough for daily use in the city. Due to the facility of battery swapping, the rider will not have to wait for charging, which is a big thing for the market like India.
Price can be 1 to 1.5 lakh rupees
Honda has not yet stated the official date, but according to media reports, it can be launched by 2026. Talking about the price, it can be between 1 lakh to 1.5 lakh rupees (ex-showroom), which will keep it in the budget segment. There will be competition from Ola and Revolt, but Honda’s trust and service network will make it different.
What are the challenges?
- Keeping heavy battery packs in the middle of the bike can affect handling.
- If the network of swapping station is not so big right now, customers may have problems in the beginning.
- According to experts, Honda should also have put a liquid cooling system, so that the battery could handle more power.
Currently two EVs of the company in India
There are only two electric two-wheeler Activa-E and QC1 in Honda’s Indian market. They were launched by the company at Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. The initial price of Active-E is Rs 1.17 lakh (ex-showroom) and QC1’s price is Rs 90,000 (ex-showroom).
