A second-year BDS student at Sharda University in Greater Noida died by suicide on Monday, allegedly due to harassment by faculty members.
The incident took place within the university campus under the jurisdiction of Knowledge Park Police Station.
Police recovered a suicide note from the scene, in which the victim accused her teachers of harassment.
“If I died, the teachers of PCP and Dental material are to blame. I want them to go behind bars. They mentally harassed me. They humiliated me. I have been in stress because of them for a long time. I want them to face the same thing,” the student allegedly wrote in the suicide note, mentioning the name of two teachers responsible for her extreme step.
Following the incident, tensions escalated on campus as students staged protests, demanding accountability from the college authorities.
A heated exchange also broke out between police personnel and protesting students.
Based on a complaint filed by the student’s family, police have detained two individuals. The matter is currently under investigation, said officials.
The incident comes days after a college student in Odisha’s Balasore district died after setting herself on fire, allegedly over harassment by a teacher.
She sustained severe burn injuries and later succumbed during treatment.
