Deepak Yadav, allegedly upset over being taunted for living off his daughter’s income, killed his daughter, Radhika Yadav on July 10.
Radhika Yadav murder case: Father allegedly planned her murder
Tennis star Radhika Yadav did not have her own academy but used to train aspirants by booking tennis courts at different locations, which her father objected to, Gurugram Police said on Saturday.
The 25-year-old was allegedly shot dead at her home in Gurugram by her father on Thursday, July 10. Deepak Yadav, 49, was arrested in connection with his daughter’s murder and has confessed to the crime.
“Radhika did not have her own academy. She used to train new aspirants by booking tennis courts at different places. Deepak had asked her several times to stop the training sessions, but she refused. That was the main tussle between the father and daughter,” an investigating officer said on Saturday.
During questioning, police found that Deepak was upset over being taunted for living off his daughter’s income, despite being financially stable with rental income from various properties.
Meanwhile, Deepak was produced before a court on Friday, which remanded him to one-day police custody.
Police recovered five bullets and one live cartridge from his Sector 57 residence during the remand.
Several reports also claim that Deepak was unhappy with Radhika’s social media presence, and some even alleged that a music video she appeared in triggered the murder.
However, Inspector Vinod Kumar of Sector 56 police station refuted these claims.
“The video was uploaded in 2023. It has no connection with the murder. The accused has repeatedly said that he did not want his daughter to earn through training,” said Inspector Vinod Kumar.
According to a close relative of Deepak, cited by PTI, he had always supported Radhika’s tennis career since childhood but repeatedly asked her to stop holding training sessions—requests she declined.
The post-mortem report revealed that Radhika was shot four times—three bullets in the back and one in the shoulder.
