The National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM) certification course is set to begin. To facilitate this, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has proposed the formation of a task force. The Indian Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) has invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) from Certified Management Accountants (CMAs) for participation.

“SEBI has constituted a Knowledge/Content Committee for NISM Certification for Internal and Compliance Auditors of SEBI-registered Intermediaries. Institute of Cost Accountants of India is represented by 3 members including a Central Council member in this Committee. SEBI is now proposing a task force consisting of professionals (CMA, CA, CS) for developing the framework, curriculum, and evaluation criteria for the certification course,” reads the official notice.

“In this regard CMAs having experience / exposure to Internal Audit of SEBI Registered Intermediaries are requested to submit expression of Interest for being nominated by ICMAI to the task force,” the notice added.

The EOI is not a legal agreement but represents the initial step towards showing the willingness and commitment to join the SEBI Task Force. The proposed task force will comprise CMAs, Chartered Accountants (CAs), and Company Secretaries (CS) who will collaborate to develop the framework, curriculum, and evaluation criteria for the NISM certification course.

CMAs with experience in the internal audit of SEBI-registered intermediaries are encouraged to submit their EOI. ICMAI will consider these members as potential nominees for the Task Force.

SEBI-registered intermediaries serve as a link between investors and the securities market. Additionally, SEBI has established an expert committee/knowledge group to design and review the NISM certification course for compliance audits of companies registered with SEBI.

Members/CMAs with experience in the internal audit of SEBI-registered intermediaries can submit their applications by June 27, 2025, via email at iaasb@icmai.in. “Members who are interested may submit their profile mentioning clearly experience / exposure to Internal Audit of SEBI Registered Intermediaries latest by 27th June, 2025,” the notice added.
