His mother, Asha Shukla, expressed her overwhelming joy, saying, “We cannot describe this in words… We are not scared for Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla at all… We are delighted, we are very proud.” Her words reflect not just a mother’s immense pride, but also the courage and strength the family shares in supporting Shukla’s extraordinary mission.

Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla’s much-anticipated space journey aboard the Axiom-4 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) is finally going to launch today. The mission, marking a historic return to space for India, Hungary, and Poland, will lift off from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Wednesday, June 25 aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket.
“NASA, Axiom Space, and SpaceX are targeting 2:31 a.m. EDT (12:01 IST), Wednesday, June 25, for launch of the fourth private astronaut mission to the International Space Station, Axiom Mission 4,” NASA confirmed in a statement. Led by veteran astronaut Peggy Whitson as mission commander, the international crew includes Shubhanshu Shukla as mission pilot, alongside Tibor Kapu from Hungary and Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski from Poland as mission specialists.

This mission has faced multiple delays due to technical issues, including a liquid oxygen leak in the Falcon 9 rocket booster and repair-related checks on the Russian Zvezda module aboard the ISS. Originally slated for May 29, the launch was successively postponed to June 8, 10, 11, then June 19 and June 22, as engineers worked to resolve safety concerns.
Once launched, the crew will head to the ISS aboard a new SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, with docking expected around 7 am on Thursday, according to NASA.
